Large-scale research infrastructure (Hercules 3 initiatives) is defined as research infrastructure with a total financing cost of at least EUR 1,500,000 (including the non-refundable portion of VAT). Total financing cost involves all subsidisable costs requested in the proposal.
The Hercules Foundation published the third call for large-scale research infrastructure on February 28, 2011 and the applications had to be submitted on September 2, 2011.
For this call for large –scale research infrastructure, the budgets for 2011 and 2012 are combined.
Fifteen applications were submitted with a total amount of EUR 46,300,000 requested as subsidies. Thirteen applications were submitted by a consortium or a partnership with third parties; six are submitted in cooperation with companies. Two proposals are an initiative of a single institution.
The assessment procedure of these proposals is now initiated. The final decision by the Hercules Foundation’s Board of Directors is expected by the end of March 2012.
